Not all mechs are about raw firepower or close combat. Some Ida's prefer a more subtle approach. Come witness the beginning concept sketches for the stealth mech, Ida “Shroud”.

The Stealth Mech

Another Ida is here and this one carries a similar design philosophy as the others at its base. The Shroud however is about stealth. It's a smaller unit than the Sabertooth or Barrage models. Its job is to either act as a silent scouting unit, or deadly surgical assassin. Look wise I'm thinking a sort of cloak that can wrap around the Shroud. It would bend light around the mech to make it seem like it was never there.

I want to do it that way rather than some sort of invisible skin. It has a slightly more realistic feel and shows off the technology of Swordsfall.  I'm thinking of either a soft cloak that can stabilize when they want to use stealth. Or (and I think my preferred) a series of long rectangular shields that come out, surround the mech and reverse light.

In terms of weapons, I'm thinking of quiet weapons. Some sort of energy kukri or long knife. I want to make sure we use African weapons for the basis of that, for sure. And a long sniper rifle that looks like it can fold and store.

Face wise, on this one I want to give it some sort of extra zoom lens that flips down.

The Concept

With those things in mind, I sent it to Enmanuel Martinez, mech master, and the concept sketch below is what he came back with! This is what he had to say about these sketches.

Ok so for this one I thought that the pose should be much more dynamic to really grasp the concept of this guy. So here are some thumbnails to explore both the shape and the pose. In some of them, I add the rifle as part of the hand, like the hand transform into the rifle.

As usually I'm feeling ALL of these, but there can only be one. Of those choices I'm feeling #1 and #5. Especially if he can do a sort of “Going Cloaking” feel to it.

Which ones did you like? Let me know in the comments below!
